Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Associate to join our Legal & Compliance team. You will be responsible for providing legal counsel across a broad range of matters, including contract drafting and negotiation, data privacy concerns, intellectual property matters, employment law issues, corporate governance, and litigation support within a fast-paced IT and technology environment with a strong understanding of the BPO and outsourcing industry. This role involves supporting business functions across global markets and ensuring that our operations remain legally compliant and contractually sound.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts including NDAs, MSAs, referral agreements, subcontractor arrangements, vendor contracts, staffing arrangements, etc.
- Advise internal stakeholders on legal risks, including risk mitigation plans, related to business operations, especially in technology-related matters.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations including data privacy, employment law, companies act, laws relating to intellectual property, etc.
- Support the development and maintenance of internal policies relating to data protection, IP rights, employee relations, and cybersecurity.
- Manage outside counsel on specialized legal issues or international matters, litigation, M&A, etc.
- Assist with legal aspects of corporate transactions such as fundraising, M&A, or due diligence processes.
- Monitor legal and regulatory changes relevant to the IT sector and advise relevant teams.
- Handle legal disputes, pre-litigation matters, or employment issues as they arise.
Qualifications:
- LL.B. or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution; LL.M or C.C. qualification would be a plus.
- 15+ years of post-qualification experience, preferably with a focus on technology, software, or IT services.
- Prior experience in a corporate legal department of a mid-large sized company or law firm with exposure to tech clients.
- Solid understanding of commercial contracts, IP laws, data privacy laws, and employment law.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- High integrity and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with global contract negotiations (e.g., US, EU jurisdictions).
- Certifications in data privacy (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E) or IT law.
- Exposure to startup or fast-growth tech company environments.
- Understanding of outsourcing, managed services, or call center operations.
- Familiarity with compliance tools and contract lifecycle management platforms.
- A self- starter with leadership and initiative, with capacity to plan ahead, keep to time lines, and ensure outputs .
