About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Vice President - Indirect Taxation to lead our indirect tax function. Reporting to the Finance & Accounts team, this is a pivotal senior-level position responsible for overseeing all indirect taxation matters across the organization. You will be instrumental in ensuring robust compliance with evolving tax laws, optimizing our tax positions, and providing critical guidance on tax-related business decisions to various internal stakeholders. This role demands a proactive leader with a deep understanding of the Indian indirect tax landscape, particularly Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Key Responsibilities:

As Vice President - Indirect Taxation, you will be responsible for:

Tax Compliance & Reporting:

- Overseeing the end-to-end indirect tax compliance cycle, including timely and accurate preparation and filing of all GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, GSTR-9C, etc.) and other statutory indirect tax filings.

- Ensuring meticulous reconciliation of GST liabilities, input tax credits, and sales data.

- Implementing and monitoring robust internal controls to mitigate non-compliance risks across all indirect tax-related processes.

Strategic Tax Planning & Advisory:

- Developing, reviewing, and implementing tax-efficient business strategies in alignment with company objectives and evolving indirect tax laws.

- Providing expert guidance and advisory services to internal teams (e.g., business units, legal, operations, IT) on complex indirect tax matters, including input tax credit optimization, place of supply rules, and classification of services.

- Analyzing the indirect tax implications of new business initiatives, product launches, and transactions, offering proactive solutions.

Tax Audits, Assessments & Litigation:

- Leading and managing all indirect tax audits, assessments, investigations, and inquiries initiated by tax authorities.

- Strategizing and handling indirect tax litigations, including drafting responses to notices, preparing appeals, and coordinating with legal counsel and external consultants.

- Representing the company effectively before tax authorities and appellate forums.

Stakeholder Management & Liaison:

- Building and maintaining strong relationships with tax authorities, external auditors, and tax consultants.

- Collaborating closely with internal finance, legal, and business teams to ensure seamless integration of tax considerations into business operations.

Policy & Process Enhancement:

- Staying abreast of the latest developments in indirect tax laws, regulations, and judicial pronouncements, particularly related to GST.

- Assessing the impact of legislative changes on the company's operations and advising management on necessary adjustments.

- Continuously reviewing and enhancing internal policies, processes, and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in indirect taxation.

Team Leadership & Development:

- Guiding and mentoring junior team members on indirect tax matters, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.

What We're Looking For

Education & Professional Qualification:

- Chartered Accountant (CA) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) is mandatory.

Preferred Background & Experience:

- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in indirect taxation, with a significant portion of that time dedicated to GST.

- Strong preference for candidates with a Big 4 consulting background (PwC, Deloitte, EY, KPMG) in indirect tax, demonstrating exposure to diverse client engagements and complex tax scenarios.

- Proven experience in a senior-level indirect tax role within a large-scale financial services organization or a similar corporate environment.

- Demonstrated expertise in handling GST compliance, input tax credit management, tax assessments, and litigation.

- In-depth knowledge of Indian indirect tax laws, regulations, and recent amendments.

- Experience with tax technology and automation tools for compliance is a plus.

- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax concepts clearly to non-tax professionals.
