- The Head of Logistics (HOD) in a manufacturing environment is responsible for planning, directing, and managing all logistics functions across the production supply chain.
- This includes inbound and outbound logistics, warehouse management, raw material flow, dispatch planning, and coordination with procurement, production, and sales teams.
- The primary goal is to ensure timely availability and distribution of materials and finished goods in a cost-efficient and process-compliant manner.
- Lead logistics operations including raw material receipt, inventory control, production support, and distribution of finished goods.
- Collaborate closely with production and procurement teams to align logistics activities with manufacturing schedules.
- Optimize inbound and outbound transportation, ensuring on-time delivery of raw materials and finished products.
- Manage warehouses for raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods, ensuring
space utilization and inventory accuracy.
- Implement and monitor KPIs related to delivery performance, logistics cost, inventory turnover, and warehouse efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (including ISO and other industry-specific requirements).
- Negotiate logistics contracts with transporters and 3PL providers, ensuring cost-effective and reliable services.
- Drive continuous improvement in logistics processes through lean manufacturing principles and automation tools.
- Manage and mentor a team of logistics professionals, promoting a culture of accountability and performance.
- Leverage ERP and WMS systems for efficient logistics planning and real-time tracking.
- Bachelors degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field (MBA or PG in SCM preferred).
- 812 years of experience in logistics or supply chain, with at least 35 years in a managerial role within a manufacturing setup.
- Proven knowledge of manufacturing workflows, inventory management, and production-linked logistics.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Excellent understanding of cost control, scheduling, and vendor management in a plant-based environment.
