Job Description
FUND STRATERGY:
- Support the refinement of the Investment Strategy of the Fund
- Assist in fund raising by pitching the investment strategy and the investment approach to Limited Partners
- Experience in all aspects of the fund-raising process, including regulatory, fund structuring and documentation. Should have interacted extensively with Limited Partners, both while making presentations for raising funds as well as on an ongoing basis after the fund has been set up.
- Should be able to address first order questions pertaining to all investments.
- Able to identify issues pertaining to the overall investment strategy, portfolio risk, HR risk, macroeconomic risks; and take appropriate steps to manage such risks.
SOURCING:
Investment Thesis/Themes:
- Identify investment themes and secure buy-in from internal stakeholders.
- Understand market dynamics, competitive strategies, and business operations, with the ability to formulate a comprehensive investment thesis and proactively build a deal pipeline around that thesis.
- New deal development and analysis validation of industry thesis, development of investment angles, competitive industry and market analysis leading to a recommendation.
Building Relationships and Investment acumen
- Contribute to the awareness of the firm through various public forums.
- Sniff deals, be ahead in deal flow.
- Be able to source, validate & understand investment risks through network relationships.
- Associated with the entire life cycle of private equity investing including leading the origination efforts and holding experience of working both with promoter / family run and professionally managed businesses.

INVESTMENT
Deal Structuring
- Proficiency in structuring deals to achieve returns / mitigate risks and close the deal.
- Overseeing business valuations and the analysis of investment opportunities and executing such analysis
- Necessary understanding of taxation and accounting matters to evaluate various aspects of a deal.
- Assisting in negotiations of price and non-price terms on deals and coordinating due diligence
Due Diligence and Closure
- Perform reference checks.
- Ensure risks identified by team / Investment Committee are adequately addressed /mitigated at diligence stage.
- Ensure terms secured are with robust security and adequate legal protection.
- Step in to close the deal.
Fund Performance
- To ensure that the minimum defined IRR of the fund is achieved (short-term and long term)
- To ensure that all Qualitative & Quantitative Objectives of the Fund are always met.
- To closely monitor the Individual performance of each portfolio investment and closely work with the operating team and operating leads to ensure value creation of the portfolio companies.
POST INVESTMENT, Portfolio monitoring and Exit
- Monitor adherence to commercial terms agreed; timely reporting to Investment Committee an accurate and unbiased view on performance of portfolio including future performance (surprises, shocks etc)
- Represent the firm before management teams and make meaningful contributions to portfolio companies Board meetings and other strategy meets.
- Intensively involved with portfolio companies, not just at the Board and Committee level but also at a deeper level - in helping them with strategic issues such as managing growth, building teams, restructuring the business, evaluating expansion plans, and managing relationships with key counterparties such as lenders, JV partners, service providers etc.
- Lead the identification and definition of value creation initiatives across portfolio companies.
- Serve as a thought partner and leadership resource to portfolio companies by providing guidance in the Execution of corporate strategy and value creation initiatives.
- Monitor the sector and the related investments for exit ideas.
TEAM BUILDING/ SUCCESSION PLANNING
- Ability to think and remain invested with the Fund with a long-term perspective to build a career leading to potential Partnership position based on the succession planning at the Fund. Demonstrate capabilities and build a team which aligns with the Funds vision.
- Ability to join a small, dedicated team of professionals taking it from inception through to a large corporation. Should be able to manage an investment team and work within the team culture of the organization.
- Recruits, mentors, and develops strong team of investment professionals.
- Ensures team stays motivated, high employee satisfaction scores and low attrition levels.
- Continuously looks for ways to improve organizational Investment, Operational and Business Development processes.
KEY SKILLS
Key attributes of the successful candidates would be:
- 15+ years of overall experience; a minimum 10-12 years of India Private Equity buy-side experience is strongly preferred preferably with Healthcare/Pharma Sector
- Story Telling Nature: Ability to present the fund narrative to both external and internal stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of finance and accounting is required; ability to interact with top management teams as well as LP networks is a must. Must bring a potential LP rolodex to the table from previous fund-raising efforts.
- Outstanding academic background: with undergraduate degree from IITs / equivalent qualification, or CA along with post graduate degree in business / accounting from premier institutes
- Healthcare sector understanding: Understanding of key Healthcare sub sectors and associated issues with key understanding of equity investment in projects. Understanding of business dynamics across key healthcare sub sectors, characteristics of good investments, and good Financial and analytical skills are expected.
- Sense of Ownership and Leadership: Ability to operate with limited supervision. Dedicated team player with a strong sense of ownership; eager to learn and work with others.
- Entrepreneurial Nature: Impeccable integrity and committed to core values and ethical business conduct in all business practices. An entrepreneurial, can-do, and collaborative mindset. Understanding of cultural differences and possesses proven cross-cultural skills. Ability to think long term to create a prominent fund house in healthcare.
- High impact & influence: Ability to influence the Board to take key decisions and interact credibly with the senior leadership and gain confidence and trust at all levels of the organization.
- ESG/ Impact/ Sustainability / SDGs: Exposure to these areas would be necessary to build a focused investment thesis for the fund.
