
About the Role
The General Manager will lead all operations at the Ship Construction Site, overseeing the end-to-end execution of shipbuilding and repair projects, including assembly, integration, outfitting, trials, and commissioning.
This leadership role is responsible for delivering projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
The GM will manage multi-disciplinary teams, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure operational excellence through strategic planning, execution, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- The General Manager will be accountable for all site operations, including shipbuilding, repair, engineering, electrical systems, hull fabrication, outfitting, commissioning, and dock management.
- They will lead and mentor department heads to ensure departmental efficiency and collaboration.
- The role involves planning, monitoring, and delivering large-scale projects in line with agreed milestones and budgets.
- The GM will coordinate resources, materials, and manpower to optimize operations, maintain strict financial controls, and implement cost-efficiency measures.
- They will ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 standards by conducting audits and mitigating operational risks.
- Quality assurance will be upheld at every stage, with prompt resolution of issues to reduce rework and delays.
- The General Manager will promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying operational gaps, introducing innovative processes, and enhancing productivity.
- They will also maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, suppliers, contractors, and certification agencies to ensure smooth execution of shipyard projects.
Core Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Industrial Engineering; Master's degree or certifications such as PMP/Six Sigma preferred
- Minimum 20 years of experience in shipbuilding or engineering project management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
- Proven track record managing large, complex engineering operations and multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong knowledge of shipyard processes, including fabrication, fitting, outfitting, and commissioning
- Expertise in project management, team leadership, quality assurance, and financial oversight
- Proficiency in ERP systems, project management software, and MS Office
- Experience working with industry regulators and classification agencies
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
