Job Title: Head - Electrical (Thermal Power Plant Engineering)

Job Summary:
The Head - Electrical (Thermal Power Plant Engineering) will be responsible for leading all electrical engineering functions for thermal power plant projects. The role demands comprehensive technical expertise in high-voltage and low-voltage systems, plant electrical design, and equipment selection, with a focus on project execution, safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage electrical design, engineering, and execution for thermal power plants (Biomass) with capacity of 20-40 MW.
- Oversee design and specification of key electrical systems including:
- Generator and excitation systems
- HT/LT switchgear
- Transformers (generator, unit, auxiliary)
- Protection & control systems
- Electrical balance of plant (EBOP)
- Station electrical distribution
- Emergency power systems (DG sets, UPS)
- Prepare and review technical documents: Prepare technical specifications, BOQ, SLDs, schematics, cable schedules, interlock logics, and design calculations.
- Ensure engineering compliance with national and international standards (CEA, IS, IEC, IEEE).
- Provide engineering support during procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Liaise with OEMs, EPC contractors, and consultants for equipment finalization and technical approvals.
- Drive electrical system studies (short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, motor starting, etc.) using tools like ETAP.
- Interface with statutory authorities for electrical inspections, safety audits, and regulatory approvals.
- Implement plant-wide electrical safety programs and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate design modifications, upgrades, and retrofits for performance and compliance.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team and coordinate closely with mechanical, C&I, and civil engineering teams.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth understanding of thermal power plant operations and electrical systems
- Hands-on experience with generator protection, unit transformers, switchyard systems, and auxiliary power systems
- Strong command over project planning, budgeting, and contractor/vendor management
- Working knowledge of tools like ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, Primavera/MS Project
- Expertise in grid code compliance, interconnection, and synchronization with the grid
- Provide Leadership skills with ability to mentor and guide large technical teams
- Strong communication skills for internal coordination and external stakeholder engagement
Preferred Background:
- Prior experience in EPC or Owner's Engineer role
- Exposure to both greenfield and brownfield project environments
