Assistant Vice President - Litigation

We're looking for an experienced Assistant Vice President - Litigation to join our Legal & Compliance team in Mumbai. In this crucial role, you'll be responsible for managing and overseeing all litigation matters for the company, ensuring our interests are protected across various legal proceedings.

Job Purpose:

As the AVP - Litigation, you will provide strategic legal guidance and ensure compliance with all applicable laws. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders and external legal counsel to navigate complex legal landscapes, covering civil, criminal, commercial, regulatory, and arbitration proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

- Litigation Management: Oversee and manage all litigation matters involving the company, including civil disputes, criminal proceedings, commercial litigation, regulatory actions, and arbitration cases.

- Strategic Legal Guidance: Provide expert strategic legal advice and recommendations to senior management and relevant departments on all litigation-related issues.

- Compliance Assurance: Ensure the company's adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and legal standards throughout all litigation processes.

- External Counsel Management: Effectively manage relationships with external legal counsel, overseeing their work, controlling legal costs, and ensuring alignment with company objectives.

- Internal Collaboration: Work closely with various internal stakeholders, including business units, finance, and human resources, to gather information, assess risks, and develop litigation strategies.

- Risk Mitigation: Identify potential legal risks and proactively develop strategies to mitigate them, minimizing the company's exposure to adverse legal outcomes.

- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare comprehensive reports, legal briefs, and presentations on litigation status, potential impacts, and outcomes for senior leadership.

- Negotiation & Settlement: Lead or assist in negotiation and settlement discussions for ongoing legal disputes when appropriate.

Qualifications:

- Legal Degree: A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree is essential.

- Experience: Proven experience in managing a diverse portfolio of litigation matters, ideally within a corporate legal department or a reputable law firm specializing in corporate litigation.

- Expertise: Strong knowledge of Indian civil, criminal, commercial, and regulatory laws. Experience with arbitration proceedings is also highly desirable.

- Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to think strategically and provide practical, business-oriented legal solutions.

- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

- Stakeholder Management: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with internal teams and external legal partners.
