
Manager - Reinsurance Underwriting (Assumed Side)
- Location: Gurugram | Onsite | 8-10 Years of Experience (4+ in Leadership)
- We are seeking an accomplished Manager - Reinsurance Underwriting (Assumed Side) to lead our underwriting operations across Treaty & Facultative business.
- The ideal candidate will combine deep technical knowledge in P&C reinsurance, proven leadership skills, and the ability to drive digital transformation in underwriting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting & Risk Assessment:
- Lead the evaluation, analysis, and interpretation of Treaty & Facultative contracts across Property, Casualty, Specialty, and niche business lines.
- Perform risk assessments, portfolio analysis, and pricing evaluations in accordance with underwriting guidelines and company risk appetite.
- Ensure adherence to underwriting authority, regulatory frameworks (IRDAI, Solvency II, NAIC where applicable), and internal compliance standards.
- Develop and refine underwriting models, rating methodologies, and risk assessment tools to enhance decision-making accuracy.
Team & Leadership:
- Manage and mentor a team of underwriting analysts and associates, ensuring high-quality output and timely support to senior stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning within the underwriting team.
- Conduct training on reinsurance structures, treaty wordings, contract interpretation, and regulatory updates.
- Business & Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with global reinsurers, brokers, cedants, and internal underwriting managers to structure and negotiate reinsurance placements.
- Support business development initiatives by providing underwriting expertise for new opportunities and complex deals.
- Maintain and strengthen stakeholder relationships across geographies to ensure seamless execution of assumed reinsurance programs.
- Data, Automation & Process Improvements
- Leverage AI/ML-driven analytics to enhance underwriting efficiency, improve risk selection, and optimize pricing accuracy.
- Drive automation initiatives in contract review, bordereaux management, and underwriting documentation.
- Create and monitor underwriting dashboards, KPIs, and performance reports for senior management review.
- Implement process controls to reduce operational risks and improve turnaround time in submissions and acceptances.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education & Background:
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Finance, or related fields.
- Professional certifications (ACII, CPCU, ARe, or equivalent) preferred.
Experience:
- 8-10 years of experience in reinsurance underwriting (Assumed side) across multiple P&C lines.
- 4+ years of team leadership/managerial experience with direct people management responsibilities.
- Strong exposure to Treaty (Proportional & Non-Proportional) and Facultative underwriting.
Technical & Analytical Skills:
- Deep understanding of contract wordings, reinsurance pricing models, and risk quantification methodologies.
- Proficiency in MS Excel (advanced functions, VBA, financial modeling), MS PowerPoint (business presentations), and data visualization tools (Tableau/Power BI preferred).
- Knowledge of underwriting tools, exposure management platforms, and reinsurance administration systems (Arius, SICS, RMS, AIR, etc. ) is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills with the ability to balance risk vs. profitability.
