Quality / Audit Specialist for lumber

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Technical / Quality Auditor to oversee and ensure the quality and compliance of plywood manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in wood products, plywood manufacturing, and quality control standards. This role involves conducting audits, identifying quality issues, and implementing corrective actions to ensure compliance with industry regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Audits & Compliance:

- Conduct internal quality audits on raw materials, in-process production, and finished plywood products.

- Ensure compliance with national and international plywood quality standards (e.g., IS, EN, BS, ANSI, ASTM).

- Monitor adherence to manufacturing specifications, adhesive bonding, veneer composition, and surface finishing quality.

- Identify non-conformities and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Technical Inspection & Testing:

- Perform physical and mechanical tests on plywood, including moisture content, glue bond strength, bending strength, and formaldehyde emission.

- Validate product specifications such as thickness tolerance, core gaps, and density consistency.

- Work closely with the R&D and production teams to improve product quality.

Supplier & Customer Quality Assurance:

- Audit and evaluate raw material suppliers for compliance with company quality requirements.

- Address customer complaints related to product quality and provide resolution reports.

- Support the development of new plywood products by ensuring quality consistency.

Documentation & Reporting:

- Maintain detailed records of quality inspections, audit findings, and corrective actions.

- Prepare reports on audit results and provide recommendations to management.

- Ensure all quality control documentation is up to date and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

- Bachelor's degree in Wood Science, Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.

- Minimum [5-10] years of experience in plywood manufacturing, quality control, or technical auditing.

- Knowledge of plywood grading standards, adhesives, and manufacturing techniques.

- Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001, FSC, PEFC).

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.

- Excellent communication and reporting skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with third-party certification audits (e.g., BIS, CE, CARB) or is working relevant Brands like Centuryply, Greenply overseeing Quality / Specifications for both in-house / out-sourced production.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

- Manufacturing plant

- Regular travel for supplier and customer audits may be required.
