Job Description - Head of Maintenance (Machine Shop)

Experience Required: Minimum 15 years

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Head of Maintenance to lead and manage the maintenance function for a large-scale machine shop with over 100 CNC machines. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on technical expertise, leadership skills, and proven ability to implement preventive maintenance, automation, and digitization initiatives to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead and oversee the maintenance department, coordinating with the Assistant Head of Maintenance and technicians.

2. Manage preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of CNC machines (VMC, Makino, ACE, BFW) and other shop-floor equipment.

3. Ensure maximum availability and performance of machines used in cast iron machining (20-80 kg components).

4. Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, spare parts management systems, and AMC (Annual Maintenance Contracts).

5. Drive automation and digitization initiatives to improve efficiency.

6. Apply lean principles, machine layout planning, and continuous process improvements.

7. Troubleshoot machine problems using logical engineering skills for quick resolution.

8. Train and mentor maintenance staff, building strong technical and team competencies.

9. Monitor maintenance budgets, optimize costs, and manage vendor relationships.

10. Ensure compliance with all safety and statutory requirements.

Key Requirements:

1. Education: Diploma / Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

2. Experience: 15+ years in maintenance of CNC machines in a large-scale machine shop environment.

3. Strong technical knowledge of CNC machinery, automation systems, and machining processes.

4. Hands-on experience with spare management, preventive maintenance, and machine logic understanding.

5. Exposure to machining of cast iron components (20-80 kg).

6. Proficiency in lean practices, shop-floor layout, and process automation.

7. Excellent leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.

Languages: Hindi / Bengali (preferred).

Preferred Skills:

1. Strong understanding of VMC, Makino, ACE, BFW machines.

2. Experience in automation, digitization, and use of maintenance management systems (CMMS).

3. Ability to design and execute machine shop layout improvements.
