Position Overview
The Head of Learning & Development will establish and lead the Learning & Development function across the hospital network. This role is responsible for building the L&D framework from the ground up, ensuring structured training programs that enhance clinical excellence, patient care standards, service quality and regulatory compliance. The incumbent will work closely with hospital leadership and branch teams to identify capability gaps, design training calendars and drive a culture of continuous learning across all levels of staff.
Key Responsibilities
L&D Set-up & Strategy
- Build the L&D function from scratch, including policies, frameworks, governance and digital learning systems.
- Define and implement hospital-wide L&D strategy aligned with patient-care excellence and organizational growth.
- Create competency frameworks covering clinical, para-clinical, and non-clinical roles.
Training Needs Assessment & Calendar Planning
- Conduct branch visits to assess training needs directly with doctors, nurses, administrative staff, and support functions.
- Design and implement an annual training calendar covering clinical skills, compliance, patient safety, behavioural and leadership training.
- Develop induction, refresher and continuous medical education (CME) programs.
Program Design & Execution
- Deliver structured, measurable training programs using classroom, simulation-based, and e-learning modules.
- Partner with external training bodies, accreditation agencies, and healthcare associations.
- Ensure training compliance as per NABH, JCI and statutory requirements.
Governance & Measurement
- Track effectiveness of training through structured feedback, assessments, and impact studies.
- Establish dashboards and regular reporting on training ROI, compliance adherence, and patient-care outcomes.
- Optimize L&D budgets and resources for maximum impact.
Team Development
- Build and lead a strong central L&D team with branch-level trainers/coordinators.
- Train and certify internal faculty, trainers and subject matter experts.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development across all hospital units.
Qualifications & Experience
- Postgraduate degree in HR, Organizational Development, Hospital Administration, or related field.
- Professional certifications in L&D (e.g., ATD, SHRM, CIPD, Kirkpatrick, Instructional Design) preferred.
- 12-18 years of progressive HR/L&D experience, with significant exposure in hospitals or healthcare.
- Proven experience in setting up L&D frameworks from scratch, ideally across multi-site healthcare organizations.
- Strong knowledge of hospital compliance, patient-safety standards, and accreditation training needs (NABH/JCI).
- Willingness to travel frequently to hospital branches to lead need assessments and oversee program execution.
