Job Description - Finance Controller

(EPC | Construction | Renewable Energy | Smart Meter Projects)

Position Overview:

- The Finance Controller will be responsible for overseeing financial health and compliance of large-scale projects.

- This includes end-to-end control over accounting, project finance, working capital management, treasury, taxation, statutory compliance, and ensuring financial discipline in alignment with company policies and international standards (IFRS/GAAP).

- The role also requires close coordination with project teams, procurement, and operations to ensure timely MIS, cost control, risk management, and audit compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Planning & Control:

- Lead preparation and monitoring of annual budgets, project-wise budgets, and forecasts.

- Control and track project cash flows, billing, collections, and working capital cycle.

- Implement robust cost allocation models across EPC/renewable energy/smart meter projects.

- Ensure accurate consolidation and elimination of inter-comp any transactions (common in multi-entity project structures).

2. Project Accounting & Reporting:

- Supervise project-wise accounting (revenue recognition under IFRS 15 / Ind AS 115) for EPC and construction contracts.

- Ensure correct treatment of WIP, advances, GRNs, retention money, mobilization advances, milestone-based billing.

- Prepare monthly MIS, variance analysis, and dashboards for management and stakeholders.

- Oversee inventory valuation for project stores, spare parts, and smart meter components.

- Establish real-time tracking of project financial performance using Power BI or similar tools

- Demonstrated impact on project ROI, investor confidence, and financial decision-making

3. Funding & Treasury:

- Coordinate with banks/FIs for project financing, working capital lines, term loans, LC/BG management.

- Support investment and funding proposals with clear, data-driven analysis.

- Manage hedging strategies for forex exposure (common in renewable EPC imports).

- Monitor fund flow statements to ensure liquidity across ongoing projects.

- Drive efficient utilization of funds between EPC contracts, renewable energy assets, and smart meter rollouts.

4. Compliance & Audit:

- Ensure compliance with IFRS/IND-AS, tax laws, VAT/GST, Withholding Tax, and local statutory requirements (e.g., DRC IBP/WHT).

- Facilitate internal audits, statutory audits, and donor/lender audits (common in renewable energy projects funded by DFIs).

- Ensure proper accounting and reporting of carbon credits, renewable energy certificates, and power purchase agreements (PPAs).

5. Risk & Control:

- Establish internal controls over procurement, subcontractor billing, and vendor payments.

- Regularly assess project financial risks (claims, liquidated damages, cost overruns, forex risks).

- Develop early-warning systems for project cash flow stress, cost escalations, or revenue leakage.

- Drive ERP-based workflows (Oracle) to enforce compliance and traceability.

6. Strategic Support:

- Provide financial inputs for bid evaluation, project feasibility, and investment decisions.

- Support M&A or JV structuring for renewable energy/smart meter consortium projects.

- Build and validate solar project financial models for utility-scale and commercial solar projects

- Guide management on tax-efficient structuring of EPC contracts and overseas projects.

- Partner with Operations, Procurement, and Planning teams for project performance reviews.

- Play a central role in Oracle ERP software implementation across all the departments.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

- Timely and accurate monthly MIS (by 5th-7th of each month).

- Accuracy of project cost forecasts vs actuals.

- Working capital cycle (DSO, DPO, Inventory days).

- Compliance scores in internal/statutory audits.

- % reduction in idle cash, project delays due to finance bottlenecks.

- Effective LC/BG utilization vs limits.

- Accuracy and timeliness of project-wise financial reporting to lenders/investors.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

- CA / CPA / CMA / MBA (Finance) with 10-20 years' experience.

- Must have prior exposure in EPC / Infrastructure / Renewable / Utilities (Smart Meter, Transmission, Solar, Hydro, Wind) sectors.

- Strong knowledge of IFRS, IND-AS, taxation, and contract accounting.

- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/MS Dynamics), project costing tools, and BI dashboards.

- Hands-on in financial modelling, project finance, and lender/investor reporting.

- Experience in handling multi-country operations, joint ventures, and consortium projects (preferred).
