We are now seeking a highly capable and collaborative Director of Engineering to lead the engineering scope of our Lead Design Services offering.

This role will be based in India (Gurgaon, Mumbai, or Bangalore), with frequent travel to the UAE and occasional site visits as needed. The Director of Engineering will oversee the work of external engineering subconsultants, coordinate with architectural and design teams, and act as a senior technical liaison with the client.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, communication, and interdisciplinary coordination skills to deliver seamless, well-integrated designs across multiple projects. As an ideal candidate you are an experienced engineering professional with 15+ years in multidisciplinary building design, preferably including hospitality or high-end real estate projects.

Strong background in managing external consultants across all engineering disciplines and coordinating closely with architectural and design teams. Familiar with BIM-based workflows and international building standards. Proven ability to lead complex projects, engage with clients, and deliver well-integrated, coordinated design solutions. Based in India, with business travels to the UAE and Africa.

Reports to : Managing Director

Role & Responsibilities:

Client & Project Leadership

- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients throughout the design phase.

- Lead early-stage design coordination in collaboration with the architectural and PM leads.

- Translate client objectives into well-coordinated engineering deliverables.

Design Management

- Manage all engineering disciplines (civil & structural, MEP/ELV, ICT, fire & life safety, security, kitchen/laundry planning) through trusted subconsultants.

- Coordinate closely with architectural, interior, lighting, landscape, and sustainability consultants to ensure integration and alignment.

- Lead technical reviews and manage design workshops and coordination meetings.

- Ensure engineering packages are delivered in line with project timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.

Technical Oversight

- Review design documentation for accuracy, coordination, and code compliance.

- Oversee the incorporation of sustainability best practices in partnership with a third-party sustainability consultant.

- Monitor BIM-based design coordination and interface with BIM managers to ensure quality model deliverables.

- Provide input on technical decisions, value engineering, and risk mitigation strategies.

Internal Development & Process Improvement

- Refine workflows and SOPs for engineering oversight and consultant management.

- Support the expansion of our partner network of engineering firms, especially in India.

- Mentor internal team members involved in design review and coordination.

Required Education, Experience & Skills

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline (preferably structural engineering)

- 15+ years of experience in multi-disciplinary engineering design or project delivery, with at least 5 years in a leadership or coordination role.

- Proven experience managing external international consultants and overseeing cross-discipline technical integration.

- Hospitality sector experience is a strong advantage but not mandatory.

- Must be BIM-literate, with a strong understanding of BIM workflows and coordination processes (hands-on operation of BIM software not required).

- Familiarity with international standards and codes.

- Excellent communication, client-handling, and problem-solving skills.

- Experience working outside home country is a strong advantage.
