Job Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced MSME Credit Lead to drive our credit portfolio growth while maintaining superior asset quality. The successful candidate will lead credit underwriting, portfolio management, and team development initiatives for our MSME lending vertical.
Key Responsibilities:
(a) Credit Management & Underwriting
- Lead the credit evaluation and approval process for MSME loan applications.
- Develop and implement robust credit policies, procedures, and risk assessment frameworks specific to MSME segment.
- Design comprehensive MSME underwriting policies including sector-specific guidelines, exposure limits, and risk parameters.
- Establish standardized underwriting criteria for different MSME segments with clear approval matrices.
- Create alternative credit assessment methodologies incorporating digital footprints, GST data, bank statement analysis, and psychometric scoring
- Implement risk-based pricing models aligned with borrower risk profiles and market conditions.
- Develop automated underwriting workflows for smaller ticket loans while maintaining manual oversight for complex cases.
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, cash flow assessment, and industry-specific risk evaluation.
- Ensure compliance with RBI guidelines, internal credit policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Optimize turnaround time while maintaining credit quality standards.
(b) Portfolio Management
- Monitor and manage MSME credit portfolio performance with focus on asset quality metrics.
- Implement early warning systems and proactive portfolio monitoring mechanisms.
- Develop strategies for portfolio diversification across sectors, geographies, and ticket sizes.
- Collaborate with collections team for effective NPA management and recovery strategies.
- Prepare detailed portfolio reports and risk assessments for senior management
Performance Monitoring & Reporting Deliverables.
- Daily Monitoring Reports: Prepare daily dashboards tracking loan applications, approvals, disbursements, and portfolio health indicators.
- Weekly Credit Committee Presentations: Present weekly credit pipeline analysis, approval rates, and risk assessment summaries to credit committee
- Monthly Portfolio Performance Reports: Comprehensive analysis including vintage analysis, delinquency trends, sector-wise performance, and geographic distribution
- Quarterly Risk Assessment Reports: Detailed portfolio stress testing, concentration risk analysis, and forward-looking risk indicators.
- Monthly Policy Compliance Reports: Assessment of adherence to underwriting policies, deviation analysis, and policy effectiveness evaluation.
- Real-time Portfolio Monitoring: Maintain live dashboards for key metrics including PAR (Portfolio at Risk), provision coverage, yield rates, and collection efficiency.
- Annual Portfolio Review: Comprehensive annual assessment with recommendations for policy refinements and strategic adjustments.
- Regulatory Reporting: Ensure timely submission of MSME-related regulatory returns and compliance reports to RBI and other authorities.
(c) Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor a team of credit analysts, relationship managers, and underwriters.
- Conduct regular training sessions on credit analysis, industry trends, and regulatory updates.
- Establish performance metrics and ensure team productivity and quality standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
(d) Business Development & Strategy
- Work closely with business development teams to identify market opportunities.
- Develop credit products tailored to specific MSME segments and industries.
- Participate in pricing strategy discussions and product innovation initiatives.
- Build relationships with industry associations, trade bodies, and ecosystem partners
Risk Management & Compliance.
- Ensure adherence to internal risk management frameworks and regulatory guidelines.
- Implement stress testing methodologies for MSME portfolio.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and audit trails.
- Coordinate with internal audit and compliance teams for regular reviews.
Education, Work Experience and Skills:
(a) Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, or related field.
- MBA in Finance or equivalent professional qualification (CFA, FRM) preferred.
- Professional certification in credit analysis or risk management is an advantage.
(b) Work Experience
- 10-14 years of experience in MSME lending, credit analysis, or commercial banking.
- Minimum 3-5 years in leadership or team management roles.
- Strong background in NBFC operations and regulatory environment.
- Experience with digital lending platforms and fintech solutions preferred.
(c) Skills
Technical Skills
- Expert knowledge of financial statement analysis and credit risk assessment.
- Proficiency in credit scoring models, rating methodologies, and risk metrics.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with credit management systems.
- Knowledge of RBI regulations pertaining to NBFCs and MSME lending.
- Familiarity with GST, ITR analysis, and digital financial data interpretation.
- MSME Underwriting Expertise: Deep understanding of cash flow-based lending, asset-based financing, and working capital assessment methodologies.
- Policy Development Skills: Experience in designing credit policies, underwriting guidelines, and risk management frameworks for MSME segments.
- Data Analytics Proficiency: Ability to use business intelligence tools, SQL databases, and statistical software for portfolio analysis and reporting.
- Alternative Data Analysis: Knowledge of analyzing bank statements, GST returns, digital payment patterns, and marketplace data for credit decisions.

- Deep understanding of MSME ecosystem, challenges, and opportunities.
- Knowledge of various industry sectors and their specific risk factors.
- Understanding of supply chain financing and working capital solutions.
