Legal Director, India
Location : Chennai
Report to: VP, General Counsel, APAC
Subordinate: 2 company secretaries (based in India)
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Act as a business partner to various business and function teams (including sales, procurement, finance, quality, engineering, HR and site management/operations) in India by gaining a solid understanding of their goals and challenges and identifying appropriate legal and compliance strategies to facilitate those goals and minimize those challenges;
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements;
- Manage corporate matters;
- Work with and manage external counsels in litigations and other significant legal disputes;
- Handle compliance matters and investigations;
- Advise on various other matters (such as employment matters) in daily operation;
- Provide training on legal and compliance topics;
- Report on external counsel spending and other budget-related matters;
- Work collaboratively with company legal team members worldwide on legal projects;
- Other tasks assigned from time to time by line manager.
Education, Qualification and Experience Requirements:
- Excellent academic record with an undergraduate or master's degree in law; overseas legal education background preferred;
- India or overseas legal qualification a plus;
- At least 13-15 years' in-house or law firm experience including experience with auto industry;
- Fluency in written and spoken English;
- Mature, with strong executive presence and excellent senior stakeholder management skills, preferably have at least 2-3 years of people leading experience;
- Solid knowledge of and sound work experience in dealing with general commercial and corporate matters; preferably have managed IP and technology issues; able to work independently on daily in-house legal issues with minimum supervision.
