Role Summery:
As a Credit Underwriter, you will be responsible for conducting the final credit evaluation and approval of loan applications after the analysis phase is complete. Your role will include reviewing credit assessments prepared by analysts, validating documentation, applying internal underwriting policies, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will play a critical role in ensuring that credit decisions align with risk appetite and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Review credit assessment reports, financial statements, credit scores, and supporting documents submitted by credit analysts.
- Perform in-depth credit underwriting to evaluate the overall creditworthiness of borrowers, with a focus on risk mitigation.
- Make independent credit decisions or recommendations within delegated authority levels.
- Validate the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of loan documentation before final approval.
- Interpret and apply credit policies, regulatory frameworks, and risk parameters during decision-making.
- Maintain proper audit trails and documentation for all approvals and exceptions.
- Communicate credit decisions to internal teams, lenders, or clients, including justifications for approvals or rejections.
- Coordinate with external lenders, NBFCs, and internal departments (sales, legal, finance, etc.) for smooth processing and closure.
- Suggest improvements to credit policies and underwriting frameworks based on observed trends and portfolio performance.
- Stay up-to-date on regulatory changes, market trends, and industry best practices relevant to credit underwriting and supply chain finance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in credit underwriting, preferably in business lending or supply chain finance.
- Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, credit risk models, and underwriting practices.
- Working knowledge of loan documentation, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards (e.g., RBI norms).
- Familiarity with CRM tools and loan management systems is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and decision-making capabilities.
