Our client is looking for a talented Credit Officer on their Debt Financing - Financial Institutions team.
Role Summary:
As a Credit Officer, you will play a pivotal role in assessing and managing credit risks associated with our investments in emerging market financial institutions. You will work collaboratively with our investment team to identify, evaluate, and structure creditworthy deals that align with our mission and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Credit Risk Assessment: Conduct rigorous credit risk assessments for a diverse range of financial institutions, including banks, microfinance institutions, and leasing companies. Evaluate borrower financial statements, industry trends, and macroeconomic factors to assess creditworthiness and identify potential risks.
Credit Structuring: Develop innovative credit structures to mitigate risks and optimize returns for our investments. Collaborate with investment officers to design appropriate credit terms, covenants, and security arrangements that align with our risk appetite and investment objectives.
Due Diligence: Lead or support field visits to conduct comprehensive due diligence and assess the financial health, operational capabilities, and governance practices of potential investees. Gather information on business operations, management teams, and market dynamics to inform credit decisions.
Credit Monitoring: Monitor the performance of existing investments, identify potential risks, and recommend appropriate actions to safeguard our portfolio. Stay abreast of industry developments, regulatory changes, and borrower performance to assess credit quality and proactively address any concerns.
Portfolio Management: Contribute to the development and implementation of credit policies and procedures to ensure the overall health and sustainability of our investment portfolio. Collaborate with credit risk management teams to establish robust credit standards, risk appetite guidelines, and monitoring frameworks.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with investment officers, analysts, and other team members to provide expert credit advice and support. Collaborate effectively in a cross-functional environment to ensure seamless execution of investment activities.
Qualifications
- Master's degree (Finance, Economics, or a related field)
Experience
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in credit risk management within the financial services sector.
- Experience in developing and implementing credit policies and procedures.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of emerging market financial institutions and their unique challenges.
- Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and assess creditworthiness.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to identify and address potential risks.
- Proficiency in financial modelling and data analysis tools, such as Excel, Bloomberg, and financial modelling software.
