About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and technically adept Business Intelligence Specialist with advanced expertise in Power BI, DAX, data modelling, and SQL.
This role demands a deep understanding of modern BI practices and a proven track record of translating business requirements into robust, scalable, and performance-optimized BI solutions.
You will be part of a high-impact analytics team responsible for delivering strategic insights through interactive dashboards and enterprise-grade data models.
This is a hybrid role requiring a balance of strong technical skills, analytical thinking, and stakeholder management to develop insightful and actionable intelligence across business domains.
Key Responsibilities
Dashboard Development & Visual Analytics
- Design and develop highly interactive Power BI reports and dashboards that drive decision-making across departments.
- Optimize visualizations for usability, interactivity, and performance across devices including desktop and mobile.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, validate data outputs, and iterate on designs.
Data Modeling & Architecture
- Build semantic data models using Power BI Dataflows, Tabular Models, and Composite Models.
- Implement star/snowflake schema and normalized/denormalized data models to ensure performance, scalability, and ease of use.
- Apply advanced DAX expressions to create complex calculated columns, measures, KPIs, and time intelligence metrics.
Data Integration & Transformation
- Use Power Query for ETL processes including data cleansing, shaping, and transformation.
- Connect Power BI to a variety of data sources - SQL Server, Excel, REST APIs, and cloud data platforms like Azure Synapse or Snowflake.
- Write and optimize SQL queries to extract and manipulate data from relational databases.
Performance Optimization & Governance
- Monitor dataset refreshes, gateway configurations, and overall performance tuning of dashboards.
- Establish BI governance best practices including version control, naming conventions, dataset sharing, and role-level security.
- Ensure compliance with data quality, data lineage, and security standards.
Collaboration & Communication
- Translate analytical findings into business-friendly insights, presentations, and data stories.
- Partner with data engineers, analysts, and business users to ensure successful end-to-end BI delivery.
- Mentor junior Power BI developers and contribute to internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
Key Skills & Expertise
- Power BI Suite: Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, Power BI Mobile
- DAX: Proficiency in writing advanced measures, calculated columns, time intelligence functions, and performance tuning
- Data Modeling: Star/Snowflake schema design, tabular models, role-based security
- SQL: Strong command over writing and optimizing SQL queries for data extraction and transformation
- ETL Tools & Power Query: For efficient data transformation pipelines
- Visualization Best Practices: Expertise in UX/UI for dashboards, custom visuals, and storytelling with data
- Integration: Experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, APIs, or similar platforms is a plus
- Agile & DevOps: Familiarity with agile development cycles, Git version control, CI/CD for Power BI (optional but preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field
- Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or similar certification is preferred
- Exposure to other BI tools such as Tableau or Qlik is an added advantage
- Experience in enterprise-level deployments of Power BI and handling large-scale data
