Key responsibilities:
Strategic leadership and business development:
- Create and execute business strategy: Develop a comprehensive strategy for growth and market penetration within the defense sector, including short-term and long-term business plans.
- Identify new opportunities: Pinpoint and generate new business in the public and private defense sectors by tracking Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Expressions of Interest (EOIs), and market trends.
- Manage profitability: Handle profit and loss (P/L) responsibilities and ensure the business meets its financial targets.
- Lead technical proposals: Oversee the creation of technical and commercial proposals for tenders, ensuring alignment with customer requirements.
Stakeholder engagement and networking:
- Build key relationships: Foster strong relationships with high-level stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), and private OEMs.
- Work with armed forces: Act as a primary point of contact for the armed forces, paramilitary, and other government agencies.
- Represent the company: Attend defense expos, trade shows, and industry events to promote the company and network with potential partners.
Project execution and team management:
- Lead project teams: Manage cross-functional teams, including engineering and production, to ensure successful project delivery.
- Manage the sales lifecycle: Oversee the entire process from lead generation to contract negotiation and closure for high-value defense contracts.
- Provide guidance and coaching: Mentor team members, conduct performance evaluations, and foster skill development.
- Ensure compliance: Guarantee adherence to government procurement policies and regulations, such as the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP).
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Educational background: A bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical or Electronics) is often required, while an MBA or equivalent business management program is highly advantageous.
- Military experience: A background as a commissioned officer in the armed forces is a common and often preferred requirement.
- Defense industry experience: 1018 years of experience in the defense and aerospace industry.
- In-depth knowledge: A thorough understanding of defence procurement procedures (like DPP/DAP), industry standards, and regulatory requirements is essential.
- Leadership skills: Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills are necessary to manage teams, persuade stakeholders, and deliver presentations effectively.
